Hurst was very proud to be awarded the contract to deliver refurbishment works to Starlight Children’s Foundation’s Starlight Express Room at the Children’s Hospital in Westmead, NSW.
Having collaborated with Starlight on a project previously, we were excited to regroup and be their project delivery partner on this special endeavour.

Starlight Express Rooms
Marketed as the most fun place to play in hospital, Starlight Express Rooms offer sick children and their family a safe environment to take a break in.
Spaces filled with music, arts n crafts and even a movie theatre, Starlight Express Rooms are integral to the emotional well-being and development of kids.
Offering a safe space to play, have fun and just be a kid, the rooms also help with socialisation, be it with other kids or with the crop of volunteers who are the chief fun operators.
How Hurst Delivered
Working to a tight construction programme, our approach of being hardworking, honest and humble paid dividends. Prioritising communication, our Sydney project team kept the Starlight team informed at every turn.
Part of our project approach also involved adhering to the strict requirements that come when working in an environment such as a hospital. As such, we took great care to reduce noise and disruption as much as possible.
The new Express Room maximises floor space to allow sections for each activity on offer, it also features custom joinery and decals to enhance the overall Starlight experience. We also worked to provide the lighting and facilities necessary to host a great play or show a classic movie.
Beyond the fun there were also operational considerations to account for. From floor to ceiling shelving to conveniently located washbasins, Express Room staff have an optimised working environment.
