NSW - Infrastructure - New Build

In 2022 Hurst was pleased to be awarded the subcontract to construct one service building and upgrade two existing train stations as part of the NSW government’s Sydney Metro City and Southwest Project.

Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project and when fully complete, will revolutionise how Australia’s biggest city travels.

This critical infrastructure project was created to integrate with the wider metro network and to achieve key objects such as increasing station capacity and efficiency, as well as improving accessibility and safety to enhance the passenger experience.

Central to our portion of the construction programme was updating these stations along the more than 125-year-old T3 Bankstown Line to bring them in line with current day metro rail standards.

Dulwich Hill

The central point of works at Dulwich Hill station was the construction of a brand-new overbridge and stairs measuring 45 metres long. Working to connect Dulwich Hill Station to the Dulwich Hill Light Rail Station, the bridge provides accessible and efficient access for commuters needing to interchange services.

Prior to the installation of the overbridge, Dulwich Hill Station only had one access point. With the addition of the bridge, a second access point has become available, making the station more community friendly.

Key to the construction works taking place a Dulwich Hill was also the installation of two lifts that provide access from the footbridge. This worked to ensure that for the first time in its history, Dulwich Hill was fully accessible.

To further enhance accessibility and safety measures, mechanical gap filler technology has also been utilised. Leading the way in terms of safety innovation, this technology works to bridge the gap between the train and platforms, providing level access for commuters.
